AmikaNow! Announces First US Patent and Boston Venture Forum Invitation
Ottawa, November 6, 2002 - AmikaNow!, a pioneer in automatic email analysis to protect privacy information in healthcare, finance and government, announced today its first US patent in the area of automatic message interpretation, transformation and personalization. AmikaNow! also announced its acceptance into the Springboard 2002 US Venture Forum in Boston this November 22nd.
AmikaNow! filed this US patent in 1999 to protect its underlying technology of automatic analysis, prioritization and transformation of messages, with applications in email compliance solutions, email gateways, and wireless. The technology allows users to have irrelevant messages, including spam, deleted automatically from their Inboxes.
“Today, 11 Billion emails with 7 Billion attachments will be exchanged, and there is a strong need for them to be automatically screened to protect the enterprise from liability. Our now patented technology, with other advances under review by the US Patent Office, is built into our email compliance solutions. We continue to license this technology to our OEM partners,” said Dr. Sue Abu-Hakima, AmikaNow!’s Founder/CEO.
AmikaNow! also announced that it is the only Canadian company invited to the Springboard New England 2002 Venture Capital Forum, co-hosted by the Center for Women & Enterprise. A committee of US venture capitalists and business executives stringently evaluated 120 applicants, selecting only 21 companies to participate. Springboard is targeted at women-led enterprises, in response to findings such as a VentureOne report in 2001 that only 4% of all venture capital, estimated to be $100 billion over the last three years, goes to companies with female CEOs. Over the last three years, the Springboard Venture Capital Forum has helped female entrepreneurs raise $1 billion in equity financing.
"This year's presenters, including AmikaNow! Corporation from Canada, are an incredibly talented and tenacious group, representing the true spirit and passion of entrepreneurship," announced Andrea Silbert, founder and CEO of the Center for Women & Enterprise, the regional host of Springboard. "They have already proven themselves to be effective businesswomen, having brought their companies this far; I am confident that many will be successful in their quests to raise capital as a result of being a part of the Springboard forum and process."
