AmikaNow! Announces Anti-spam Solution and TRM Partnership
Ottawa, November 20, 2002 - AmikaNow!, a pioneer in automatic email analysis solutions for the healthcare, finance, and government sectors, announced today the release of its AmikaGuardian™ Anti-spam Server. AmikaNow! also announced a partnership with TRM Technologies for a Government of Canada contract for IT security and protection.
Of 11 Billion emails exchanged today (IDC), a staggering 4.1 Billion are spam. This means 1 million spam emails are received every 10 days in an enterprise of 10,000 employees. Email users are being deluged, levels having increased 600% since last year (Mail-Abuse Prevention Systems LLC). The result is higher costs in enterprise infrastructure and employee efficiency. Managing spam and adult content ranks higher than viruses as a priority issue for corporate email use, according to a recent Ferris Research survey.
"The cost of spam is staggering, greatly increasing the load on the network, clogging user inboxes and lowering server performance. Spam also increases the email storage burden especially for legislated organizations who are archiving all email, including junk, for 10 years. Add the impact on employee time to scan and delete spam, and email quickly becomes unusable." said Dr. Sue Abu-Hakima, AmikaNow!'s CEO. "We are very excited about our partnership with Authentium. Their strong sales force and extended distributor network of VARs will help us get the AmikaGuardian to end users at ISPs and in the enterprise very quickly." added Dr. Sue Abu-Hakima.
"The AmikaGuardian™ Anti-spam Server detects and quarantines spam, lightening the load on the corporate email infrastructure and improving the bottom line," said Ken Grigg, AmikaNow!'s CTO. "We screen both incoming and outgoing email, identifying concepts based on our US-patented content analysis technology. The enterprise can block spam emails outright or give end users the flexibility to sort emails as they choose. For today's overworked IT managers, the AmikaGuardian Server finally makes spam control as simple as virus control. The Server can also be used to ensure compliance with other corporate email policies."
AmikaNow! also announced today that it will contribute automatic content analysis expertise to a partnership with TRM Technologies Inc. to the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) for a government standing offer on Information Technology Security and Information Infrastructure Protection. The TRM consortium was one of only four successful bids. The Government of Canada is expected to spend over $40 million on this program over a 4-year period.
